Dr. Waheed Akbar
Dr. Waheed Akbar has been in practice for more than 20 years and is a member of the American Medical Association, Michigan State Medical Society and the North American Spine Society. Dr. Akbar is also a board member for the Field Neurosciences Institute, a founding member of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America and a member of General Colin Powell’s initiative, Saginaw County’s Promise.
Dr. James Bicknell
Former President & CEO, MidMichigan Physician Group
Dr. James Bicknell is the former President and CEO of MidMichigan Physicians Group and President of Midland Emergency Room Corporation. For over 32 years, Dr. Bicknell was a practicing physician in the Midland emergency department. Dr. Bicknell was Vice President for Medical Affairs for MidMichigan Health until being named Chief Executive Officer of MidMichigan Physicians Group in 2010. He has been involved in fundraising with MidMichigan Community College and Wayne State University School of Medicine where he started endowed scholarships. Recently retired, he is now enjoying time with family and friends.

Mr. Bierlein is a stockholder, President, and CEO of Bierlein Companies, one of the nation’s leading specialty contractors, known for its award-winning safety, quality, and dependability. Headquartered in Midland, Michigan, the company performs turn-key projects in demolition, dismantling, crane and rigging, asset recovery, recycling, and environmental remediation services throughout the United States. Mr. Bierlein is involved in numerous other business ventures and community services.
Gregory D. Brogan
Managing Partner, Brogan, Reed, Van Gorder & Associates
Mr. Brogan is the Managing Partner of Brogan, Reed, Van Gorder & Associates, a 4th generation family East Lansing insurance and investment firm founded in 1934 specializing in employee benefits, business and estate planning. He has been a part of the firm for 31 years and the managing partner for 26 years. Mr. Brogan is also Chair Emeritas of Sparrow Health System Board and past Chair of the East Lansing Rotary Foundation Board.
Stella H. Cash
Senior Assistant to the President and Provost of Michigan State University for International Engagement
Mrs. Cash is the Senior Assistant to the President and Provost of Michigan State University for International Engagement. Before returning to Michigan State University in November 2017, Stella Cash served as the Vice President of Development and Strategic Partnerships at Sparrow Health System for 7 years. Prior to serving at Sparrow, Mrs. Cash served as the Director of Dietetics Program for more than 25 years at Michigan State University and then as the Interim Vice President for the Alumni Engagement and Executive Director of the MSU Alumni Association. In the latter role, she was responsible for a $20-million dollar budget and served over 500,000 MSU Alumni. Mrs. Cash also serves on several boards, including the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce and the University Club of MSU, in addition to being actively involved in the Zonta Club of East Lansing and Women Working Wonders.
Mitzi M. Dimitroff
Owner, RDS Management
Mrs. Dimitroff is the owner of RDS Management. She is a developer and manager of the Mill End Lofts Project in Bay City and other commercial real estate in the region. Mitzi Dimitroff serves on the Bay Future Board of Directors, as well as the McLaren Bay Region Board of Directors.
Mark S. Flegenheimer
President, Michigan Sugar
Mr. Flegenheimer is the President and CEO of Michigan Sugar. Prior to joining Michigan Sugar, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Amerop Sugar Corporation, a commodities trading company based in New York.
Richard J. Garber
President, Garber Buick, Inc.
Mr. Garber is President of the Garber Management Group, which owns and operates 16 dealerships representing 15 franchises in Michigan, Illinois, Florida, and New York. The business also includes Gateway Financial Solutions, and an independent used vehicle business operating under the name RightWay Automotive Credit. Garber Management Group is currently the 13th largest privately held company in Michigan outside of Detroit.
Karolyn S. Goslin
Mrs. Goslin is a former Merrill Lynch District Administrative Manager, working with multiple Merrill Lynch offices throughout the region. She participates with the Wolgast Development Corporation, as a partner in the Blue Group Investors and Towne Centre Development Company. Their primary investments are in commercial real estate including the Fashion Square Office Centre, Department of Veterans Affairs, Aleda E. Lutz VA Healthcare Annex, Executive One and Executive Two office buildings all located in Saginaw Township. Karolyn is an eight year board member of the Bay Area Community Foundation where she presently serves as the Chairman for the Scholarship Committee. She is married to Craig Goslin and has three children Brent, Jaclyn and Kevin.
Larry L. Preston

Mr. Larry Preston is the co-founder and former CEO of Tri-Star Trust Bank. Prior to starting Tri-Star in 2000, Mr. Preston practiced law in the areas of business and estate planning. Throughout his career, his passion for community led him to be the Chairperson for the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce, Saginaw Community Foundation, Heroes for Kids, Youth First, and the Art Council of the Great Lakes Bay Region. Furthermore, Mr. Preston has been honored by a number of organizations and most recently received the prestigious Outstanding Businessman of the Year award from Saginaw Valley State University.
Daniel L. Kozakiewicz
Chairman, Three Rivers Corp.
Mr. Kozakiewicz is Chairman of Three Rivers Corporation, a Midland-based general contractor. Associated with the company since 1986, Dan was appointed President in 2001 and was responsible for establishing overall corporate objectives, insuring profitable growth and fulfilling the company’s commitment to its customers and the community. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Three Rivers Corporation. Mr. Kozakiewicz has served the community and the construction industry as a volunteer for various organizations supporting youth, education, workforce development, community and regional development, safety and skilled trades training.
Joseph J. Ruth
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Sparrow Health System
Mr. Joseph (Joe) Ruth is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Sparrow Health System, in Lansing, MI. Joe joined Sparrow in 2007 originally serving as its Chief Strategy Officer. Joe is deeply involved in the Lansing community, serving in leadership positions on boards and task forces with Michigan State University, Volunteers of America Homeless Shelter, and the Lansing Economic Area Partnership. He is also the Mayor’s appointee to the Michigan Avenue Corridor Authority.
Peter H. Shaheen

Mr. Shaheen is the President of HORIZONS Conference Center and Vice President of SSP Associates, Inc., a family-owned real estate development company in the Great Lakes Bay Region. He has served in both of these capacities for over 15 years. As Vice President of SSP, Shaheen works closely on the many development projects that SSP owns and develops in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
J. Donald (Don) Sheets

Mr. Sheets is the principal of J. Donald Sheets Consulting, LLC and former Vice Chairman of Dow Corning Corporation. He currently consults with DowDupont Inc. and other business entities. He serves as executive-in-residence for the Broad College at Michigan State University. In addition he is a director of the Midland Center for the Arts, Wolverine Bank, Mid-Michigan Health System, Michigan Baseball Foundation, Dow Chemical Company Foundation and as a trustee (Board Chair) of Albion College.
Joe M. VanderKelen

Mr. VanderKelen is the CEO and President of Snow Machines, Inc., a 3rd generation family business. Snow Machines, Inc. was selected as the exclusive snowmaking company of the 2018 Jeongseon Alpine Olympic, in Korea, marking their seventh Olympic partnership to date. Mr. VanderKelen has served locally on the boards and committees of West Midland Family Center, Mid-Michigan Health, Wolverine Bank and the Midland Country Club. He has also served on many national ski area boards.
